(1Kings 19:19-21; 2 Kings 2:1-13)
Plowing with the oxen- twelve
Yoked upon, for the toiling ground
When the cloak upon him fell.
Called that day, and he did leave;
Kissing father and mother,
No longer to cleave-
For a greater purpose his yoke would be.
It came to be, his radical faith
His yoke removed, and the oxen’s fate- Slaughtered,
A feast, for the people to eat-
Along burned the past
Of his life’s work, now cast
For a purpose seen,
A servant to be.
A double portion of power was sought
From his master, whom
He followed and was taught
A power from on high
A power given, not bought.
A plea for the Spirit to fall, upon
Him as strong as the prophet
Whom he followed and
Tarried along.
A grand request was made that day,
When fiery chariots and horses came
To take the great prophet away-
The mentor, the teacher, the powerful prophesying preacher.
The mantle did fall from the whirlwind, in which
Where the great prophet went forth
Into Heaven’s grand bliss.
He took up the mantle, Left behind
Smote the waters deep, it was divine
For they did part, and did show
Elisha’s double portion,
God did pour.
